Abu Dhabi Loves Coffee is back for its third consecutive year and better than ever. Featuring 20 of the capital’s best homegrown specialty coffee concepts, #AbuDhabiLovesCoffee 2022 is running from November 18 until December 7. Curated by The HUNTR for the Department of Culture & Tourism’s Abu Dhabi Culinary platform, the aim of this specialty coffee creation is to foster exploration and awareness around Abu Dhabi’s burgeoning third-wave coffee scene. 

Coffee fans can visit all partnering cafe concepts between November 18 and December 7 to take advantage of an exclusive “2 for 22AED” coffee-tasting menu, plus explore the various workshops and happenings taking place throughout the period. 

From November 30, you will be invited to cast your votes for your favourite concepts and baristas over on the @abudhabilovescoffee Instagram account, and for the first time, there will also be The HUNTR’s Choice Award up for grabs.

Abu Dhabi Loves Coffee 2022 Partners



Located on Al Muntazah – Rowdhat, AD Cafe is open daily from 7 am until 11 pm. Powered by local Roastery (and fellow Abu Dhabi Loves Coffee partner) Hermoso Coffee Roasters, the team uses a high-end Al Mazocco coffee machine. The lead barista here is a talented chap called Ronaldo, who has over 6 years of experience and is on hand to make you your perfect brew, alongside the rest of the capable team – Ailyn, Ryan, and Flore.

What? An immersive coffee-based mocktails session featuring a meet and greet with AD Cafe’s Roaster – Hermoso. This talk will give you a taster of what you can achieve with coffee-based mocktails and be fun and informative.

What? To celebrate Abu Dhabi Loves Coffee 2022, AD Cafe – Rawdhat branch will be offering a special coffee and eclair pairing for 40AED. The barista will guide you on the best pairings and the price is a special one-off, just for you.

Located at the Corniche, AEH Cafe is small and cosy, and serves up a variety of specialty coffees alongside desserts and sweet treats. Created by two friends obsessed with trying new spots for coffee and desserts, AEH uses special beans from Brazil, Colombia, and Ethiopia roasted by Blacksmith Coffee. Baristas Edward (Uganda) and Jundan (Indonesia) use the La Marzocco Linea Classic 2 Group machine and manual brews are available using V60, Kalita Wave, Chemex, Syphon, Aeropress and the Cold Drip Gater. Milk-wise AEH also has them all – full-fat dairy, low fat, oat, almond, coconut and lactose-free.

Situated at the iconic Louvre museum on Saadiyat Island, Aptitude features a relaxing colour palette, cosy corners, and a beautiful al fresco area with stunning views. The lead barista here is called Rabindra Dhungel, and with over 7 years experience in coffee, you can be sure you’re gonna get a good cup.  The Aptitude team use the La Marzocco Strada 2 Group Head machine and Dubai-based roastery Seven Fortunes beans.

What?  To celebrate Abu Dhabi Loves Coffee 2022, Aptitude Cafe offer a unique chocolate and coffee pairing. There will be three different types of V60 brews using a variety of beans sourced from Ethiopia, Indonesia and Colombia. 

The V60 will be perfectly paired one of three different types of chocolate bars from the award-winning (and fellow Abu Dhabi Loves Coffee partner) Mirzam Chocolate.

Located at Al Bateen, Ava Cafe is also an Abu Dhabi Loves Breakfast partner. So you can visit to explore the coffee offering (and benefit from having two espresso-based coffees for 22AED), plus indulge in the exclusive 2for1 breakfast offering (find out more here).

The superstar barista here is Rohit Salunke, who has over four years of specialty coffee experience. Using the Three Group Head Victoria Arduino Espresso Machine, the team crafts its coffee with beans from Hermoso, Archers, and Miraki.

To celebrate their first ever participation in #AbuDhabiLovesCoffee the team at Ava is offering a S’mores Latte (29AED) flavoured with chocolate and topped with a piece of freshly-toasted marshmallow, from November 18 until December 7 only. 


What? Ava Cafe will be hosting hour-long Latte Art Workshops. The workshop features 20 minutes of orientation and 40 minutes of hands-on, Latte Art training.

When: The workshops are available 12noon through to 5 pm, for one-hour slots on November 19, 20, 26, and 27th.

First opened by Emirati national Layla AlMulla in March 2020, Café Renard is a unique concept offering third-wave coffee, music, and poetry all in one pretty space.

Café Renard is named after the French word for ‘Fox’, who is poetic by nature and carries itself with stealth and a passion for the small things in life. Alongside its specialty coffee offering, the menu features a small selection of sweet and savoury pastries and desserts and you can also treat yourself to a mini bouquet of flowers to sit beside your cup of joe.

Located on Yas Bay, Drop Coffee is a Dubai-born specialty coffee concept offering a full food menu and a sleek, modern ambiance. Joseph is the superstar barista here, and he’s been with Drop since it first opened in 2016. He’s also won many awards including Latte Art Champion, he’s a SCA Certified Q Grader, SCA Certified Roast Master, and a National Certified Coffee Judge.

The team here uses the Victoria Arduino Black Eagle 2 Group Head, with its handpicked, seasonal selections and origins of the finest coffee beans.

Conceptualised by a passionate Emirati specialty coffee enthusiast called Saeed, Elixir’s ambiance is inspired by South Asia’s small, rustic and cosy cafes.

The team use manual brewing such as V60, Kalita, Aeropress and Syphon and also serve Cold Drip and Cold Brew. Plus the folks at Elixir grind their beans (from ELIXIR Roastery and Three Roastery) using the award-winning grinder Mahlkonig EK43. To prepare espresso-based coffees, the baristas start by grinding the roasted beans with a Compak F10 and then extract it with 2 group head prestigious Italian La Marzocco Machine Strada to produce the finest cup of coffee.

What? This season Elixir Cafe is offering immersive Barista Training Sessions, which will cover everything you need to know to get started with specialty coffee preparation and brewing.

Located in the heart of Shakhbout City, Elysium originates from the Greek word Elysion, which means the highest place of bliss. Offering a full food menu, Elysium’s coffee is powered by its Simonelli Italian coffee machine and the local roastery, Coffee Selection. The superstar barista here is called Mark, and he loves to create and experiment with coffee infusions.

To mark their debut participation in Abu Dhabi Loves Coffee, the team at Elysium have created an exclusive coffee available November 18 until December 7. Called the Lotah Coffee and priced at 22AED, the drink is available hot or cold and is an espresso-based coffee with a Biscoff Lotus twist. 


What? Elysium will be holding a coffee tasting event where everyone is welcome to come and try unique coffee blends. Their expert barista team will also conduct an educational talk and share basic coffee knowledge.

What? Elysium is also hosting an immersive cake baking workshop. The female chef will teach participants to create a delicious cake using dates, and of course, coffee. This event is open to everyone who wishes to participate. The workshop will be in Arabic with English translation.

Emirati nationals Chef Khaled and Alia Al Mazrouei officially opened the doors to Fa’e Cafe in Abu Dhabi on the first day of 2020. Located at the impressive Abu Dhabi Youth Club, Fa’e Cafe is a celebration of its founders’ passion for good food and good coffee in an inspiring setting.

The brainchild of Sharjah-based Sheikha Maisa Al Qassimi, Foodshed offers “wholesome food and local roots” in Khalifa Park. All of the dishes on the menu are crafted from fresh, locally-sourced produce where possible, and roughly 90% of everything on offer (including the tables) is from within the UAE.

The specialty coffee is powered by Sharjah-born Ratios Coffee. Foodshed has developed an extensive special menu for the #AbuDhabiLovesCoffee festival that includes mains, desserts, drinks, and pantry staples crafted using coffee. Recently opened in the Al Nahyan neighbourhood, Meler Cafe’s superstar barista is called Ubaida. He and his team are using the Nuova Simonelli specialty coffee machine alongside Victoria Ardriano and Simonelli grinders. 
Powered by the Archer’s Roastery, the beans on offer include Brazil Santa Rosa and Costa Rica San Isidro for espresso-based coffees.

Homegrown, Emirati-owned bean-to-bar chocolate connoisseurs Mirzam Chocolate Makers first started life in Dubai’s Al Quoz with an impressive chocolate factory and now count the UAE capital as their second home, thanks to this beautiful space at the Qasr Al Hosn site.

The oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Hosn provides an opportunity to discover the rich history of the UAE and the ruling family. And now, thanks to Mirzam, you can fuel all of that cultural exploration with some world-class chocolate and caffeine…

Mirzam offers a retail space to shop the latest chocolate collections and a striking specialty coffee bar, complete with freshly baked cookies, brownies, and other treats from Mirzam’s small-batch bakery. There is also gelato and soft-serve by local maker Canvas and tartines made with locally-sourced produce topped on thick slices of Dubai-based Birch Bakery’s sourdough bread.

Coffee-wise, Mirzam uses Goldbox Roastery’s specialty coffee beans and Samuel is the noteworthy barista here – you should try his flat white. What? A fun session encompassing delicious chocolate and coffee tasting, which has been expertly paired especially for you. Mirzam will be using its signature single-origin chocolates from its Maps collection, straight from its factory. This workshop is great for chocolate, coffee lovers, or both. What? Polish up on your coffee making skills with Native’s Basic Barista Training Sunday Sessions

When: Sundays throughout the #AbuDhabiLovesCoffee Period (November 20, 27, and December 3). Morning Session 10 am until 12 noon and an Afternoon Session from 5 pm until 7 pm.

Founded by Emirati national Saoud Al Shamsi, Notes Cafe was created as an ode to celebrate Arab culture – encompassing both good coffee and good food and bringing friends and families together to create memories in a cosy, welcoming space.

The folks at Notes use coffee from the Man vs Machine roastery and have a variety of specialty-grade single-origin beans on offer. Barista Allan Sayuman won 2nd place at the Latte Art Throwdown and the team uses a La Marzocco Strada machine.

There’s also a full food menu encompassing options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus cheat-day-worthy desserts. What? Latte Art By You invites visitors to Notes to make their own latte art under the guidance of the barista team. The folks at Notes will be collecting pictures of all of your efforts and there will be prizes for the best art at the end of the initiative. The winner will receive a specialty coffee and croissant of their choice, every day for 15 days. 2nd place will receive a 200AED Notes Cafe voucher, and the 3rd place will receive a bag of specialty coffee beans and a keepsake flask.

In 2017, the founder of Notorious was operating a bespoke furniture business and sourcing memorabilia under the name of Le Vault. Luckily he caught the specialty coffee bugger and the concept now encompasses all three elements in one single cafe and roastery. The superstar team here features smiley Stephan, precise and dedicated Rea and cool head John. Over in the cafe section at Notorious there is a Modbar counter espresso machine, which gives you the opportunity to see the whole process of coffee extraction. 

Meanwhile, at the Notorious Roastery you’ll find a state-of-the-art roasting machine by Probat capable of roasting up to 12kg per batch. Currently the team source specialty grade coffee’s from different single origins such as El Salvador, Colombia , Brazil, Guatemala and many more. There are also premium coffee available including Colombia and extremely rare Panama Geisha’s lots, which are rich in aromas and delicious flavours. 

Last but not least, at the Notorious Academy there’s coffee education for passionate coffee junkies and barista’s looking to elevate their coffee knowledge and skillset. There are a variety of accredited courses by the SCA in different modules such as barista, brewing and sensory, and also in-house trainings by Notorious’ licensed and accredited trainers. The facility is approved and licensed by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).

What? Notorious Cafe will be hosting an immersive cupping session. Cupping is a way to taste, evaluate, and compare the flavour, quality, and potential of a given coffee. It’s important for sourcing coffees, developing roast profiles, maintaining consistency and quality control, and educating and training.

When: Throughout the period November 18 to December 7, twice a week on Fridays (November 18, 25, and December 2) and Tuesdays (November 22, 29, and December 6), from 9 am until 10 am.

What? Notorious Cafe will be hosting a brewing throwdown event where baristas are encouraged to brew coffee, and there will be three cash awards awarded.

The Dubai-born Otaku is a Japanese specialty cafe concept located in Al Gurm Plaza in Abu Dhabi (and d3 in Dubai). Open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between, here you’ll find minimal and peaceful vibes with splendid views overlooking the mangroves.

Superstar barista Yogesh Soryawanshi has over 5 years of experience in commercial and specialty coffee shops and has been trained by remarkable roasters. He loves to do cupping to pique customers’ interest in coffee.

Here the team uses a one-of-a-kind MAVAM under-counter espresso coffee machine, which has world-class temperature stability, and an individual pressure pump for each brew group for uninterrupted brewing pressure.

The beans come from Man Vs Machine and are carefully roasted using nothing but the highest-grade Arabica coffee beans exported straight from Germany.

Pentagon Specialty Coffee is an Emirati specialty coffee and desserts concept, inspired by the number five: there are 5 Emirati co-founders, 5 elements of coffee, and 5 senses of the coffee experience. All of Pentagon’s coffees are carefully chosen considering the 5 elements of third-wave coffee – sweetness, body, flavour, aroma, and finish.

The team at Pentagon also believes the coffee experience should not rely on taste alone, but rather give the coffee aficionado an experience that satisfies all 5 senses. The barista team uses a custom-made all-black, award-winning Victoria Arduino Black Eagle machine and there are a variety of high-grade single-origin coffees available.

What? An introduction to all the basic skills you need to make the perfect filtered cup of coffee at home. Price includes all materials required such as filters and coffee beans, and guests will be able to enjoy their own self-brewed coffee at the end of the workshop.

Located in Al Bateen, R Cafe is an elegant and minimal homegrown specialty coffee concept, complete with a full food offering. Superstar barista Norbet has five years of specialty coffee experience and was bestowed with an award for excellence by Al Ain University. 

Using Sanremo specialty coffee machines and four Victoria Arduino Mythos 1 grinders, alongside EK43 specialty coffee grinders, the team at R Cafe use beans from Hermoso, Meraki, Method and El Matador.

Located on Yas Island Reach is a homegrown, Emirati-owned concept conceived of by three friends. Motivated by the passion to create a community, the folks at Reach wanted to offer a space where people can “reach”, meet, and have a good time with delicious food and specialty coffee.

Here the passionate team of baristas is using a customized La Marzocco Line PB coffee machine, alongside high caliber grinders ANFIM with a highly durable proximity sensor and the Mahlkonig Peak, a highly advanced piece of kit that offers precise and fresh coffee grinds consistently (it comes with precision wear-resistance cast steel 80mm flat burrs, having no settling-in-effect, which grinds at a rate of approx. 3 grams per second. This impressive burr set enhances the coffee sweetness and promotes increased extraction).

Beans-wise, Reach is using 100% Arabic and high-grade coffee from the Meraki Roastery. Espresso-based coffees are crafted using the Brazil Sao Silvester beans (notes of almond, caramel, chocolate, and hazelnut), and there are also Ethiopian Shakiso Nala beans (with ripe nectarine, rosella, and coconut sugar notes). For manual brews, there are many origins to choose from including Rwanda Bumbogo Nano-Lot (deep tamarind, dried native fruits, and raisin), and Kenya Nyeri (orange juice and black tea notes).

What? A collaboration with the celebrated and iconic local barista Majed of Ghost.lel Roastery, this workshop introduces coffee roasting from an expert – ‘green to golden cup’. It offers an amazing experience to explore specialty coffee and its vast land of flavours.
