Asia De Cuba: One of Abu Dhabi’s finest restaurants gets The Huntr thumbs up

Say hello to Asia De Cuba – one of Abu Dhabi‘s finest restaurants. This little gem is located along the picturesque Corniche and offers fantastic food, great drinks, and even better vibes…

Fan of Asian food? Fan of Latin food? Fan of gorgeous little bustling restaurants that are very much “the place to be”? Then this one is for you. With outposts in London and New York, Asia De Cuba brings a fun mix of fusion food to the UAE capital, headed by Cuban-born Executive Chef, Luis Pous. The interiors are plush and Pinterest-worthy, we loved the cosy bar and its seating area, which was sparkling with romantic candlelight. There’s also a gorgeous outdoor area for when the UAE temperatures allow, which features an outdoor bar and decadent cabanas all overlooking the tranquil Arabian Gulf.

The Huntr visited for a Thursday night dinner. The restaurant and bar were packed, and the service was friendly and thorough. To start, we ordered the Tunapica Tartare (80AED) and wholeheartedly recommend you do the same. A beautiful mixture of Spanish olives, tuna tartar, almonds, currants and avocado ceviche is served encased within crispy wontons. Divine. We also sampled the Goats Cheese Fritters (60AED), which come with a zesty mango cucumber relish and jalapeño aioli. The Roasted Duck Salad (80AED) blew us away. It’s comprised of Chinese cabbage, red currants, fresh citrus, almonds, duck crackling, all doused in a spicy miso vinaigrette – just try not to fight over the duck crackling. Wow-wee. The Sweet Potato Fries (55AED) were also excellent and are loaded with queso fresco, chipotle honey soy, toasted sesame, and scallions. The Rocoto Miso Glazed Black Cod (145AED) is another must-order, so succulent, it melts in the mouth like butter. One dish that wasn’t bad, but we probably wouldn’t order again was the El Barrio Chino (295AED) – it features a 14oz Wagyu strip steak, glazed Japanese eggplant, edamame & fresh hearts of palm salad. For that price, we were expecting fireworks, but alas – it didn’t quite meat (get it?) our expectations. However, what’s one average dish between friends? The rest of the meal more than made up for it and we can not wait to return to this bustling little hot spot next time we find ourselves in the capital…

Insider tip: Arrive for dinner early and luxuriate with some cocktails at the pretty bar or if the weather allows, outside on the terrace, which has beautiful views of the Arabian Gulf. Asia De Cuba Abu Dhabi runs a brunch offering on Fridays and Saturdays between 1pm–4pm. There’s a happy hour offering specially priced after-work 2-for-1 drinks and half-off select bar items Sunday – Saturday between 4pm and 8pm.
