Update: Brunswick is temporarily closed owing to the Covid-19 crisis.
Formerly the Brunswick Sports Club – Brunswick Eatery, Bar and Terrace – is the new baby of the Bull & Roo group (a.k.a. the team behind some of The Huntr’s favourite cafes: Tom & Serg, The Sum of Us, and Common Grounds). An impressive makeover has seen this homegrown gem transform from an Aussie sports bar to a pretty sexy little eatery, bar and terrace. Think matte black walls, shiny black tiles, an exposed wooden-beam ceiling, pretty lights and flickering candles.
The all-new Brunswick is divided into three sections: there’s an expansive licensed bar with bar stools and high and low table seatings for groups of people enjoying drinks, bar snacks or a full meal, then there’s the eatery in the centre (a.k.a. the main restaurant), and last but by no means least, a brand spanking new terrace.
The Huntr visited for a Thursday night dinner. The room was buzzing and almost every table was taken. The crowd is cool and relaxed, and there’s no sign of pretension. There’s a diverse mixture of post mall shoppers, after work crowd, couples on romantic dates and groups catching up with family and friends. We decided to enjoy Brunswick’s awesome happy hour deal at the bar stools to work up an appetite. Every day between 5-8pm, the bar offers buy-1-get-1-free drinks for handcrafted cocktails, wines, spirits and the Brunswick Draught.
Suitably hungry, we switched to a cosy little dining table in the bar area to enjoy some treats from the Brunswick kitchen. To start we shared the Turmeric Spiced Tempura Cauliflower (30AED), which comes with a slightly spicy and majorly addictive fried curry leaf and rasam mayo. We also couldn’t resist trying the Sea Bass Ceviche (65AED), a colourful mixture of sea bass, papaya, pickled habanero, lime and avocado oil. It tastes like your favourite vacation. Don’t miss it. And, for the main event, we decided to share the Lobster Mac & Cheese (250AED). This decadent dish was as delicious as you would hope, but it was just ever-so-slightly too salty*. However, that did not stop us from eating it.
If you find yourself in the Mall of the Emirates and fancy a delicious, cosy dining experience, maybe with a glass of something strong (or two), then look no further: Brunswick Eatery, Bar and Terrace is your spot. We are already planning our return to enjoy that awesome happy hour and sample one of the incredible looking sourdough pizzas coming out of the authentic wood pizza oven…
Insider tip: Bookings recommended for busy nights and larger groups. The only non-smoking section is the eatery in the centre. You can still watch a game on the screens in the bar area, just ask one of the servers.
*The Huntr has since returned and re-ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese – not too salty at all.
