Tucked away inside The Courtyard in Al Quoz, homegrown gem Cassette Dubai first opened its doors in February 2019. Join your friends at The Huntr as we present a closer look…
It’s no secret that The Huntr has a crush on The Courtyard. Not only is the Al Quoz hotspot home to gems like Boston Lane, Georges of Dubai, and The Collective by Ripe, it is also one of the industrial area’s oldest buildings. Built out of recycled and repurposed materials, The Courtyard offers a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the city alongside an enticing opportunity to support some wonderful homegrown businesses. And now there’s another jewel in the crown: Cassette – a “creative bistro cafe.”
H2R Design acted as the interior designers of this beautiful eatery, which has been named after the French word ‘Cassette’, to invoke nostalgia, creativity, and inspiration. As one might expect of a cafe with the moniker ‘Cassette’ – the music has been thoughtfully curated. An interactive corner offers the opportunity to peruse and purchase vintage vinyl and the ceiling has been specially designed to allow the sound waves to flow continuously throughout the space – providing the perfect, soft acoustics.
Three years in the making and the brainchild of owner Haider Madani, the walls are also scattered with local artist’s work (also for sale) and the vibes are retro with a cool modern twist. It is the ideal spot to get work done or study (there are ample charging stations at the tables), read a book (there are various cosy corners), or enjoy a meal or some coffee with friends, colleagues or family.
The menu offers French cuisine with a “modern Parisian direction”. The chefs are all French fare professionals and the menu offers a variety of options – including gluten-free, vegan buckwheat pancakes, egg dishes, French Toast, and healthy bowls for the first meal of the day, and tartines, burgers, salads, and hearty main courses for lunch. The Huntr visited for a late breakfast/brunch. We sampled the Wild Mushroom Quinotto (67AED), which we wholeheartedly recommend – healthy, wholesome, comforting, and hearty. Plus the No Carbs Benedict (65AED), with smoked salmon, rocket, avocado, poached egg, and an orange hollandaise foam – offering a delightful, zesty, and sweet kick. We also tried the (off-menu) Chocolate Tart (32AED), which was topped with fresh raspberries and had just the right amount of sweetness.
Drinks-wise, Cassette is alcohol-free and offers a variety of speciality coffees (the beans are sourced from homegrown roastery Seven Fortunes), smoothies, milkshakes, special juices, fresh juices, health shots, mocktails, teas, and soft drinks. We loved the Ginger Spiced Orange (23AED), enjoyed a nice Flat White (21AED), and a picture-perfect and quite delightful Beet Latte (24AED).
Insider tip: Cassette Dubai is open daily from 8 am until 6 pm. Breakfast is served all day. There are ample vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options on the menu, alongside a dedicated kid’s menu. Ask for the coffee stamp loyalty card and get a free coffee after you purchase 9.
