Kuwaiti gem: The Cocoa Room serves up one of the best breakfasts in Dubai

Kuwait’s iconic restaurant – The Cocoa Room – finally opened its doors in Dubai at the Galleria Mall in the summer of 2015. The brainchild of the same folks that founded Slider Station (which is conveniently located right next door), this coveted breakfast haunt and Instagram favourite is now finally on UAE soil sand, for foodies to feast…

The Cocoa Room Dubai, much like its older sister in Kuwait, serves up a host of indulgent breakfast dishes, all with an American influence. The Huntr was lucky enough to visit ahead of the restaurant’s official opening (on August 29 2015) and can confirm that this is a place that needs to be added to your hitlist – stat. You are going to spend some serious calories, but it will be worth it.

One of the best places to indulge in your cheat day meal (outside of lunch at its sister concept Slider Station perhaps?) Cocoa Room Dubai’s menu is substantial – and available only between 8am and 12noon. The breakfast-only concept features five Eggs Benedict options to choose from – including ‘Ancho & Cocoa Braised Short Ribs Benedict’, ‘Roast Beef Benedict’ and ‘Mexican Ranchero Benedict’. Eggs are also served up in other forms – ‘Turkish Eggs’ for example, which features a poached egg, garlic labneh, chilli oil and sourdough bread, or, our favourite ‘Scrambled Egg Money Bags’ – shaved black truffles, roasted macadamia nuts, fresh cream, parmesan and truffle oil. There are four sandwich options, we tried the ‘Ninjawich’ – maple and chipotle candied bacon French toast, sunny side up eggs, southern fried bacon strips, sharp cheddar, sweet potato fries, Sriracha maple hollandaise and ‘The Country Side’ – an English muffin with natural black Angus patty, American cheese, maple glazed bacon and fried quail eggs.

And if the sweet stuff is more your thing Cocoa Room Dubai has a bunch of decadent pancakes, waffles, doughnuts, and more to choose from. In fact, there are three different waffle options, seven different pancake options (we went for the red velvet with cheese frosting and almond crumble – wow), two French toast options and a plethora of homemade cakes, cookies and pastries proudly displayed in cafe’s cabinet.

One of the most Instagrammed menu items at the Cocoa Room is the hot chocolate with salted caramel and burnt marshmallow (it’s a picture – see here), we weren’t man enough to wash down all of the aforementioned with a sweet, thick chocolate drink, but plenty do – so go forth and enjoy – one of the best cheat day breakfast venues awaits…

Insider tip: The Huntr visited on a dedicated pre-opening tasting day. It was busy. When it opens its doors to the public it’s only going to get busier – we recommend beating the crowds and heading here on weekdays and/or as soon as it opens at 8am. Go hungry and absolutely do not visit if you are on a diet.
