Want to be transported to a quaint little restaurant in Greece? Then look no further. From the romantic ambience to the low ceiling, Elia screams Greece. There’s a beautiful patio area outside and an air-conditioned balcony seating for the warmer months, white-washed walls, cosy little seating arrangements complete with white tablecloths and chairs, olive oil and wine bottles scattered everywhere and a fantastic Greek playlist, which means that you will literally feel like you are on vacation.
Elia opens at 7pm daily for dinner and closes at midnight. The menu features a variety of traditional Greek dishes, curated by chef Georgios Efraimidis. Almost all of the herbs and spices are flown in from Crete and cooked by a talented chef from Crete Island. Justgogreece.com even declared Elia Dubai to be “the best Greek restaurant in the world outside of Greece.”
To start our culinary journey, we nibbled on complimentary freshly baked bread, Kalamata olives, and a grilled eggplant dip.
From the starters section of the menu we opted for the Refreshing Salad (46AED), which is comprised of fresh zucchini, kefta, yoghurt sauce, herbs and almonds and the Tuna Salad (75AED) – fasolakia, herbs and hot salad with cherry tomatoes, olives and capers. Both were fresh and delicious and beautifully plated. On to the main event and we tried the Greek Summer Pasta (75AED), which comes with a delicious combination of sun-dried tomato, olives, capers, and Metsovone cheese and the Lamb Chops (135AED) – which were perfectly pink, moist and come with lettuce, fricassee, and an egg-lemon sauce.
To end a sumptuous culinary cruise to Crete on a sweet note, we sampled the Melopita (45AED) – a traditional Greek dessert crafted from caramelised cream and layered with biscuits, nuts and ice cream and the Kataifi (45AED) – which is very similar to baklava and is handmade with Mizithra cheese from Crete, caramelised kumquat and figs and served with vanilla ice cream. Divine.
Elia is fully licensed and offers an impressive selection of wines. We sipped on the Strawberry Cucumber Mojito mocktail, which was refreshing and like summer in a glass.
