Emirati nationals Chef Khaled and Alia Al Mazrouei officially opened the doors to Fa’e Cafe in Abu Dhabi on the first day of 2020. Join The Huntr as we present a closer look…
Located at the impressive Abu Dhabi Youth Club, Fa’e Cafe is a celebration of its founders passion for good food in an inspiring setting. Inspired by the spirit of the Ghaf Tree (the national tree of the UAE and the symbol of 2019’s Year of Tolerance) the menu features an array of dishes using locally-sourced ingredients, which change regularly depending on what is in season. It’s divided between breakfast, an all-day brunch offering and nibbles, flatbreads, toasts, Japanese-style donburis and desserts. There is also a monthly specials menu, ample vegan and vegetarian options and plenty of healthy options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The food here is best experienced when shared, because then you can order a variety of plates and taste a little bit of everything. Which is exactly what The Huntr opted to do… We started with the Poached Egg with Falafel and Cauliflower and Green Tahini (36AED), which is comprised of a perfectly-poached egg served on toast with cauliflower, falafel with avocado salsa. Plus the Short Ribs Donburi (82AED), a delicious, meaty bowl featuring short ribs with hoisin glaze, mushrooms, cheese and crispy onions. A Vegan Flatbread Pizza (39AED), with tomato sauce, green olive pesto and roasted seasonal vegetables and the Avocado Hummus with Falafel Crisps (36AED). The hearty (and unique) Steak on Toast with Muhammara Sauce and Green Olives Relish (62AED) and last but not least, the Cauliflower 3 Ways (38AED) with chickpeas, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, capers and a tahini dressing.
We didn’t try it on this visit (and will return to do so soon and update this feature) but Fa’e Cafe also offers a variety of speciality coffees, which are powered by the Abu Dhabi based Blacksmith Coffee. Oat milk and lactose-free milk is also available.
For a casual bite or a grab-and-go experience, Fa’e also have a counter that’s stacked with freshly baked goods including croissants, cookies, brownies, cakes, gluten-free cakes, homemade granola and fresh juices.
Insider tips: Open daily from 8am until 8pm. Free Wifi available. Limited free parking available. Fa’e Cafe has only been open since January 1st 2020 and is currently in soft launch phase – some minor teething issues are to be expected as the team find their feet.
