Farzi Cafe Dubai: Indian food – but not as you know it…

Say hello to Farzi Cafe Dubai – a must-visit foodie hotspot in the heart of City Walk, serving up an interesting take on Indian cuisine with all of the Instagram-worthy fanfare you could ask for…

From the outside, Farzi Cafe is quite unassuming. It’s only when you look closely at what the diners seated outside are eating, do you realise that this is no ordinary cafe… No, no. This is a cafe with a hefty dry ice bill and some interesting eats…

The good bits: The food, the fanfare, the presentation. Chicken Tikka Masala served in the iconic British telephone booth. Dry ice smoking all over the place. A divine amuse-bouche to cleanse the palette. This isn’t standard cafe grub. The Farzi Cafe menu is pretty expansive – you can choose from a variety of tapas portion meals to share, plus larger, main course dishes. Indian classics are reinvented for the modern day, including a delicious chicken tikka masala slider, and Dal Chawal Arancini – a must-order starter featuring rice and lentils, topped with mini rolled popadoms and crammed full of flavour.

The bad bits: The service was really quite lacklustre. There were plenty of servers, but they were all standing around chatting to one another, instead of being proactive with tables. This is pretty standard in Dubai, but still – it was a letdown. Also, Farzi felt a little unmaintained… The pillows on our chairs were stained, one really badly so. The menu was quite sticky and “well used”. And the mirrored welcome booth that the maître’d stands behind hadn’t been polished for weeks by the looks of it… If the folks at Farzi could tighten up these elements, it would be a perfect 8 or 9/10 for us. Nonetheless, we will definitely be back for the food alone…

Insider tip: Book to avoid disappointment – especially if you are a big group or visiting during peak times: This is a popular place.
