Since The Huntr first visited Fen Cafe and Restaurant at the Sharjah Art Foundation there have been three Fen babies born and the Emirati-owned eatery now boasts four locations in the emirate – including at The Rain Room, Kalba and now at the relatively new Zero 6 Mall. The President and Director of the illustrious Sharjah Art Foundation – Sheikha Hoor Al-Qasimi – opened her first ever f&b concept back in 2016. Fen Cafe and Restaurant was created out of her passion for food, art, creativity and community. This latest iteration is no different.
Striking from the first step inside, The Huntr loved the powdery pink chairs, modern pendant lighting and semi-private, wooden-cladded dining corners. The kitchen is open and takes centre stage, which means you can sit back and enjoy the culinary action and there’s also a fantastic view of the city skyline from the back windows.
The menu encompasses breakfast dishes (available until 5pm), light dishes including soups, salads and starters, main dishes, burgers and sandwiches, sides and desserts. Many dishes are inspired by Japanese and Asian favourites, there are many gluten-free options, plus some dairy-free and vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes (which are all clearly marked). The bar is alcohol-free and offers speciality coffees (powered by RAW) and teas, fresh juices, mocktails, water and sodas. The Huntr loved the Chicken & Waffle (65AED) – boneless local fresh chicken from Al Ain, buttermilk-fried and served on top of a homemade Belgian waffle with Canadian maple syrup. The Eggs Benedict (45AED), which we opted to have with salmon and comes complete with delightful homemade English muffins were another fantastic breakfast option. The Veal Sashu Ramen (69AED), which is crafted with homemade ramen noodles, veal chashu, 3-minute boiled egg, chives, nori seaweed sheets, daikon cress, homemade chilli sauce with a meat & white shoyu broth, delighted us with its umami flavours and the Japanese Soft-Shell Crab Burger (65AED) with a house-made miso bun, fresh pomelo segments, red cabbage slaw and chuka wakame served with homemade wasabi mayonnaise and hand-cut sweet potato fries, was full of textures and flavour. Plus, the Ube Cupcake we finished with was beautiful to look at and to eat. Don’t miss it.
