Tresind Studio: The world’s smallest and most exclusive Indian restaurant?
Looking for something really special, bucket list-worthy, exclusive, and impressive? Then look no further… You’ve arrived at the right place. Seating just 20 diners an evening, Trèsind Studio is quite possibly both the world’s smallest and most exclusive Indian restaurant…
The name ‘Trèsind’ is a reference to the French word for ‘very’ (très) and an abbreviation for Indian (‘ind’) – a.k.a. “very Indian”. The ‘studio’ aspect of the Trèsind Studio name is likely because dining here is exactly what it might be like dining at a fine-dining chef’s studio. This one is helmed by the talented Chef Himanshu Saini.
Featuring just six tables that can accommodate just twenty guests a sitting, there is nothing quite like Trèsind Studio in the UAE, or indeed, perhaps the world. The coupling of high-brow Indian cuisine, and the level of immersive theatrical involvement the guests can experience, is really quite special. There are just two menus available – a set menu for meat/fish eaters and a set menu for vegetarians.
SAN Beach: A little slice of heaven on the Palm Jumeirah
SAN Beach is one of the most stunningly beautiful beach clubs the HUNTR has ever had the pleasure of visiting. Part of ‘The Club’, a project by Nakheel, which encompasses nine upscale beach clubs, SAN is inspired by ‘The San’ – the first people of Africa, who lived in harmony with the Earth.
No expense has been spared here. Think bar tops, tables, and counters made of solid marble, huge lumps of sparkling crystals scattered at every turn, a chic restaurant, complete with a luxurious live seafood bar, and a tempting array of Wagyu beef chunks on display. Inviting seating and lounging arrangements – whether you are popping in for a drink or a bite, or plan to spend the whole day. Every detail has been clearly considered by the team (Bahrain-born Foodfund International, the same folks behind Clay in Bluewaters).
Licensed to serve alcohol (even from breakfast time, if that floats your boat), you can visit SAN for drinks night or day, for a day pass experience, for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and everything in between.
Ula: A blissful bar, restaurant and beachside destination
Meaning “sea jewel”, Ula is located on the Palm Jumeirah, right between Dukes Hotel and the Oceana Residences, and encompasses a casual beach bar and cafe/restaurant, a bigger, slightly more formal bar and restaurant, and beachfront offering day passes.
Constructed almost completely in organic materials, Ula transports you to full vacation mode. If it weren’t for the beautiful view of the iconic Dubai skyline, you might feel as if you were in Bali, Thailand, the Maldives, or some other, peaceful, exotic place.
Family-friendly, with various seating options for small and large groups, the HUNTR spent half a day here. Arriving at 9 a.m. to enjoy the beach and sea, and ending with lunch in the main restaurant. We started the day with coffees from the beach-side cafe/bar/restaurant and enjoyed a swim in the sea. The day pass also gives you access to the Dukes’ Hotel swimming pool, which is huge but pretty busy with hotel guests. It’s also very deep, and therefore not suitable for small kids – we preferred Ula’s private beach area, which is well-shaded and more peaceful.

Located right on the beach in Dubai’s JBR, Tamoka is inspired by the rich cultures of the Antillean Islands. Featuring laid-back, tropical vibes and stunning views of the surrounding ocean, this is the kind of place you can head to and accidentally end up staying the whole day.
Good for drinks, nibbles, lunch, dinner, and everything in between, the interiors feature natural elements like wood and wicker, with plenty of potted plants and greenery. We loved the eye-catching bar, cosy corners, and bohemian vibe.
There’s also a dedicated ceviche bar, fire pits and Caña by Tamoka – the beach bar that invites you to spend the day on the sand and indulge in an edited selection of Tamoka’s menu.
ROKA: A contemporary Japanese robatayaki restaurant & bar
From London to Dubai, ROKA is a concept by Rainer Becker a.k.a. the brains behind the award-winning Zuma. Featuring an emphasis on robata grill cooking, ROKA is located within the Zaha Hadid-designed Opus by Omniyat.

The menu encompasses sushi and sashimi, raw tartares, tempuras, snacks and salads, signature dishes, Japanese rice hot pots, robata seafood, meat and vegetables, and desserts. There are dedicated vegan/vegetarian options and a host of tasting and set menus for lunch and dinner.

Named after the clay food pots used in Peruvian fires and cooking methods, Clay encompasses a variety of table options for small and large groups. There is also a stunning outdoor terrace area with cracking views of the Ain wheel and the surrounding coastline.
We loved the opulent furnishings, all of the lovely green potted plants, and eye-catching chandeliers. It’s an upscale place and a great spot to enjoy a romantic meal, celebrate a special occasion, have a fancy lunch on payday, or take some clients you need to impress.
La Tablita: An authentic Mexican restaurant in Bur Dubai

Featuring an expansive licensed bar, this Sunset Hospitality-owned spot is a great spot to indulge in delicious and authentic Spanish cuisine with co-workers, friends, family, or solo…
Set amongst a dimly-lit, sultry and romantic space (which was once home to the (now defunct) Barbary Deli + Cocktail Club), Lola is casual but you can easily get dressed up here, celebrate a special occasion or party the night away without feeling out of place. Open daily from 1 pm until 1 am on weekdays and 2 am on weekends, the bar is extensive enough to function as just a drinks destination, and then there are ample seating options for small and large groups. There’s also a pretty outside terrace area complete with festoon lighting and a window into the kitchen.
The menu offers a variety of classic Spanish tapas, paella, meat, poultry, and seafood. There are also pork items for non-Muslims. Vegans will have a hard time finding a dish to fill them up, but vegetarians have a couple of options to choose from. As you probably know – Spanish cuisine is famously pretty seafood/fish and meat-heavy. the HUNTR loved the Calamari (57AED), Croquetas, and the unique Fideuá Paella (189AED good for 2-3 people).
11 Woodfire: Open-fire fine dining in a converted Jumeirah villa
First opened in January 2022 and located in a converted villa on Jumeirah Beach Road, 11 Woodfire is a must-visit for all foodies. Dedicated to the art of cooking with fire and heritage food prep methods, this homegrown restaurant is unlike anywhere else in the city…
Conceptualised by the Singapore-born Chef Akmul Anuar (a.k.a. the talent behind HUNTR fave 3Fils), 11 Woodfire is a collaboration with Atelier House Hospitality.
The walls are done in industrial grey with the floor much the same. This muted colour palette is juxtaposed against flashes of red velvet couches, other chairs are done in caramel-coloured leather, and a smattering of mirrors and potted plants add warmth and depth to the space. Inside, the star of the show is the open kitchen – featuring an abundance of wood and fire and busy, talented staff prepping food. LPM Restaurant & Bar: One of Dubai’s most famous fine dining venues
The self-proclaimed “home of French Mediterranean cuisine”, LPM Restaurant & Bar is located within DIFC. Featuring a licensed bar, fancy vibes, a small outside seating area, and some of the finest French cuisine in the city, this spot has been a favourite amongst the it-crowd since it first opened its doors in 2010.
A great place to head for an important business meeting, romantic date, or to splash the cash after payday, bookings are strongly advised – especially for busy periods such as evenings and weekends (although you will never find LPM empty).
the HUNTR visited for a weekend lunch, as we have on dozens of occasions over the years. The menu is vegetarian-friendly, and there are a couple of vegan-friendly options here and there. Everything is served in a sharing style, and in fact, LPM was one of the first establishments to ignite the “sharing plates” trend in Dubai. Legendary dishes include the burrata, lentil salad, prawns, escargot, and to finish – the LPM take on French toast.
Blu Pizzeria: A sourdough Neapolitan wood-fired pizza restaurant in Umm Suqeim
This homegrown pizza gem started life as a pop-up in Umm Suqeim Park in 2021. It quickly garnered a lot of attention thanks to its delicious pizzas, which are handcrafted with perfectly cooked sourdough bases in wood-fired ovens. Fast-forward to the end of 2021 and Blu Pizzeria opened its first proper restaurant – this gorgeous spot right on the Umm Suqeim marina.
Water-facing, the restaurant offers floor-to-ceiling glass windows for picture-perfect views even from the inside, and there are a variety of outdoor tables available too. A casual spot, Blu is the perfect place to head with family or friends, and be warned – pizzas are only available until they sell out.
the HUNTR visited for a weekend dinner and arrived exactly at 6 pm to beat the crowds and score a table fast (we suggest you do the same). We tried and loved the following: the Musakhan Pizza (80AED) with sumac sauce, fior di latte cheese; sauteed chicken, onion, Blu balsamic mix, sour cream sauce, and roasted almonds. The Short Ribs Pizza (90AED) with truffle white sauce, caramelised onion, aged cheeses mixture, black Angus short ribs, and our favourite of the three – the Tartufo pizza (90AED) with truffle paste, truffle oil, shaved truffle, and a mix of aged cheeses. Each pizza was practically perfect, and it’s easy to see why Blu built a cult-like following in record time.

The Insalata Di Rappa Rossa (70AED) – a delicious and fresh starter that you shouldn’t miss if you’re a beetroot fan. Plus the Polpo Arrosto (120AED), tender and juicy slices of grilled octopus, perfectly matched with a potato puree and samphire, zucchini, and lemon aioli with tomato jam – divine.

The brainchild of ramen chef and Dubai resident Neha Mishra, Kinoya started life as a secret supper club. Neha’s iconic ramen creations at said supper club soon went ‘viral’, and Kinoya was in the unique position of having a pretty cult-like following even before it opened its doors. This is both good and bad – eager customers, but lots of pressure. But you know what they say about diamonds and pressure…
Minimal, modern, and spread over lots of little intimate sections. The main dining room is much smaller than you might imagine from looking at pictures, and there are various private dining room options, including the coveted chef table(s).
The bar is licensed, the staff are friendly, and our only gripe was that the chairs weren’t that comfortable in the main dining area.

private members-only section.

Located in the well-heeled Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Shanghai Me brings a slick 1930s-inspired aesthetic and incredible, fine Asian cuisine to the UAE.

We loved the expansive terrace, which features bamboo and banana trees and makes you feel as if you’ve escaped some hip outdoor bar in Asia, and inside, the opulent furnishings and the cosy corners, which bring all of the 1930s vibes.
There’s also a secret private dining room, which is concealed from the main dining area and offers the ultimate VIP experience, a DJ booth for when the party starts, and a lounge area for luxuriating with cocktails.

Nigerian-born, London-bred Izu Ani is no stranger to the country’s culinary scene. After successfully helming the La Petit Maison kitchen in DIFC, Ani went on to open La Serre with Emaar Hospitality, before launching a steady stream of his own all-star concepts – The Lighthouse in D3, Carine, and most recently – Gaia; Ani’s elegant licensed Greek gem in DIFC curated in partnership with Chef Orestis Kotefas.

Long Teng: Affordable fine dining at this Chinese gem
Say nǐ hǎo to Long Teng Dubai – an affordable Chinese fine dining gem tucked away inside Business Bay…
The first thing you notice as you enter this restaurant is the huge wall decorated with Chinese writing, which our server later explained features all of the different words that describe the various techniques in Chinese cooking. The second thing you notice is just how vast and opulent it is. Spread over three levels, the ground floor features a lounge vibe, the 1st floor houses the banquet hall and private rooms and the 5th floor is the main dining area where you will find the seafood display, kitchen, and terrace. The different floors are accessible either by a lift or the stunning spiral staircase that made us think of a majestic Chinese dragon.
Plus, the outdoor terrace has a pretty view of Business Bay, Dubai Canal, and the Burj Khalifa and they also serve shisha here – so it’s a great spot to while away an evening when Dubai’s temperatures permit.

the HUNTR visited for a Friday lunch and opted for the MINA Brasserie tasting menu. First came complimentary breadsticks coated with herbs and spices and Greek yoghurt and honey dipping sauce. Delicious. With whetted appetites it was time to sample some starters – Michael Mina’s Tuna Tartare (pine nuts, garlic, mint, sesame-habanero oil, quail egg yolk) is served with toasted bread. It’s deconstructed and mixed live in front of you and absolutely delicious. A must-try. Next came the Market Salad (mixed greens, pomegranate, pickled pumpkin, almond, and manchego). It’s simple and light, but we felt a little more citrus in the dressing would have made it perfect.
NOÉPE: Chic, Cape Cod vibes overlooking the creek
Situated at the pretty Promenade at the even prettier Park Hyatt hotel in the Dubai Creek area, NOÉPE is the ideal spot to visit during Dubai’s winter for al fresco drinks complete with some of the best vibes and views in town. Here you are surrounded by fancy yachts, it is one of the best places to catch the spectacular Dubai sunset and you can also see the iconic Dubai skyline. The swaying palm trees, glittering festoon lighting, and fire pit further add to the vacation vibes…
Inspired by the glamorous Cape Cod – a hook-shaped peninsula of the U.S. state of Massachusetts that’s a popular vacation spot, especially with the affluent and famous – decor-wise NOÉPE is like a cosy, casual beach house with luxurious touches. There are pillows decorated with stripes and green palm leaves, chic white curtains, nautical ornaments, and an inviting, expansive bar right at the centre. The outside seating is a must-book for when the cooler weather permits and the (previously mentioned) fire pit will keep you warm during Dubai’s (sometimes) chilly winter evenings.
The menu at NOÉPE is mostly casual and encompasses ‘East Coast Inspired Cuisine’, ‘Nikkei Inspired Cuisine’, things to nibble on whilst you catch up over drinks with friends and desserts. the HUNTR loved the Forest Mushroom Quinoa dish and the Seafood Tempura. We would advise skipping the Lobster Burger (too much bun, not enough lobster) but definitely do not miss the divine and worth-every-calorie Cannoli dessert.

Located at the Jumeirah Al Naseem hotel, this licensed eatery features some of the prettiest interiors we’ve seen – think pink walls, Art Deco and 1970s details, South African touches, a stunning marble champagne bar, and plenty of Instagrammable nooks and crannies.
This is definitely a fancy place, a place you make an effort for, celebrate special occasions, and bring someone you want to impress. In terms of seating, there are three options – during the cooler months you can sit outside and enjoy the views of Jumeirah Al Naseem’s turtle lagoon (which is home to some rather cute rehabilitated turtles), you can sit at the bar for drinks, and nibbles, or you can sit in the main restaurant area and soak up the buzz.
There’s also a retail store – The Collective by Charles Greig, a concept hailing from the Nelson Mandela Square Sandton, which showcases the best of African design.

Tong Thai: Thai fine dining theatre in Business Bay
As soon as you enter Tong Thai you will be transported to Thailand. There are striking, red floating lanterns covering the ceiling and the whole room is inspired by the lantern festival in Thailand. Beautiful and romantic, and all while overlooking the sparkling towers of Dubai’s Business Bay, this is a great spot for date night…
Food-wise Tong Thai offers fine dining, Thai cuisine, and a tempting menu of dishes divided between appetisers, soups, curries, stir-fried, signature dishes, steamed, grilled, rice & noodles, side dishes, salads, and desserts. There is also a dedicated vegetarian menu.
To start we tried the ‘Tong Thai Sampler’, which is comprised of papaya salad, purple flower dumplings, veggie spring rolls, prawn cakes, chicken wrapped in pandan leaves, and beef satay. Each piece is mouthwatering and bursting with flavour. We also ordered the pomelo salad – soft shell crab, fried shallots, and toasted coconut, all doused in a chili lime dressing. The mixture of sweet, salty, and spicy is addictive.

Food-wise, the menu pays homage to traditional Spanish gastronomy while infusing global influences – ideal for Dubai's cosmopolitan palate. Dishes are categorised into Cold Starters, Hot Starters, Arroz (rice), Pasta and Risotto, Fish, Meat, and Desserts – inviting both traditional tapas-style grazing and heartier courses.
Osteria Funkcoolio: Chef Akmal Anuar's Italian 30-seater restaurant
Located at the picturesque Port De La Mer in Dubai’s Jumeirah 1, Osteria Funkcoolio offers breathtaking waterfront views and a unique culinary concept marrying Italian and Japanese flavours. This intimate gem, seating just 30 diners at a time, is the brainchild of Chef Akmal Anuar and his wife Inez Tantyanna, the founder and managing partner of White Rice – a boutique hospitality company based in Dubai…
Akmal Anuar, hailing from sunny Singapore, was raised by hawker parents and experienced first-hand the challenges of the food and beverage industry. Determined to escape it, he serendipitously found himself drawn back to the kitchen during high school. The rest, as they say, is history, and Akmal has since worked his way up the ranks and headed multiple award-winning restaurants in Singapore and the Middle East. Now a successful restaurateur and the driving force behind multiple unique concepts in the United Arab Emirates, including the award-winning 3 Fils, 11Woodfire, and more, Akmal opened the doors to Osteria Funkcoolio at the end of May 2024.
Funkcoolio's location was found, by accident, by Inez whilst she was out walking with a friend and she immediately fell in love with the charming, water-side, “European
vibes”.
Lana Lusa: Mediterranean cuisine and Portuguese heritage in Dubai's Jumeirah 3
In late May of 2024, Dubai's beloved Portuguese gem Lana Lusa reopened in a stunning new setting at the Four Seasons Private Residences on the Canal. After building a loyal following at its original Wasl 51 location, the acclaimed restaurant has levelled up with this elevated dining experience and expanded menu…
Stepping into the new venue instantly transports you to the sun-drenched Mediterranean shores. The meticulous design captures the essence of the region's culinary traditions with a modern, refined elegance inspired by founder Jessica Kassim Viveiro's Portuguese heritage.
The wife of Rizwan Kassim, CEO of RIKAS Hospitality Group, Jessica has infused Lana Lusa with her family's treasured recipes and the warmth of home. The new space allows that authentic spirit to shine even brighter.
Sushiyaki: A homegrown, licensed Japanese on the Jumeirah Waterfront
Situated along the serene Jumeirah Waterfront at the Madinat Jumeirah, you will find SushiYaki – a Japanese restaurant by the family-owned, family-run restaurant group, Food Fund International (SAN Beach, Clay and more). Having taken over the venue once home to Americano (a jazzy American brasserie, also by Food Fund), this cosy and romantic little spot is a must-visit if you love its specialities: sushi and yakitori…
If you've visited Americano before (as we have) you will notice some of the elements are still present, and with this soft refurb, the space has been elegantly made over with some signature Japanese elements to bring the fresh concept to life. We loved the umbrella-filled ceiling, the (AI-generated) Japanese murals, and the live sushi-making counter.
Ideal for a romantic date, a big group celebration, a birthday, and to impress guests, SushiYaki's name comes from the two signatures it serves – sushi and yakitori.
Alba: East meets West at the Dubai Opera Plaza
Meet Alba, an elegant restaurant by the folks at Metafoodies, skillfully blending the comforting flavours of Asian street food with an elevated, gastronomic European flair. This stunning venue at Dubai Opera Plaza transports diners back to the 19th century cultural exchange when East first met West…
Award-winning architect Tristan Du Plessis has created a breathtaking space with a chic, modern vibe complemented by elements inspired by Asian philosophy. From the striking cherry blossom tree greeting guests to the soaring ceilings adorned with upside-down umbrella motifs, the design marries European style with Oriental accents like dragon artwork and ceramic vase displays.
The food is in the capable hands of Brand Chef Vladimir Chistyakov and Chef Minho Ted Shin and melds traditional Korean, Japanese and Chinese flavours with contemporary European techniques. The menu is divided into starters, sushi, street foods, gyoza, main courses and desserts with plenty of shareable options.

Featuring the brand's signature, cosy, casual charm, Pitfire Dubai Hills offers a range of seating options including secluded booths and outdoor seating.
