GET INSPIRED WITH THE ART PAINTING LAB

Art Painting Lab (APL), a local art consultancy and service provider, has launched #UnitedArtEmirates, a grass-roots art initiative created to unite, inspire and encourage the UAE’s community during this tumultuous time.

The programme invites artists and amateurs alike to create and share an original piece of visual art. APL, who specialize in the design and creation of murals, will then paint a public mural using the artworks they receive in the programme with the intent of memorializing this unique time in history and “[telling] the story of how the UAE’s residents came together to create something inspiring in uncertain times.”

EXPLORE JADDAF ALOUD ONLINE

Contemporary art institution Jameel Arts Centre has taken their cultural festival, Jaddaf Aloud online with the aim of providing opportunities for audiences to engage with and support homegrown artists and businesses.

The virtual iteration of the festival will feature interactive, artist-led workshops for all ages; music performances, original compositions and short films; a local artisans’ shopping directory and more.

TUNE INTO ISLAMIC AFFAIRS’ ONLINE LECTURES

This Ramadan will see the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) taking its Islamic affairs lectures online as a part of the nation’s precautionary procedures in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sessions will be held by via the IACAD YouTube channel and hosted by accredited lecturers in Arabic, English and Urdu. Lectures available in Arabic include ‘Come to Ramadan’, ‘The month of Ramadan’, and ‘Ramadan and Faith’. ‘Month of Goodness’ and ‘Month of Repentance’ will be introduced in English. ‘Exploiting the month of Ramadan’ and ‘The virtue of the last ten days’ will be launched in Urdu.

TAKE FREE CLASSES AT THE MOMA ONLINE

New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) has launched a series of online classes, completely free of charge, for all interested in getting a better understanding the 91-year-old museum’s varied collections. The courses will invite visitors to look closely at works in their exhibitions with guidance from MoMA curators, artists, and designers.

Classes include Fashion as Design; In the Studio: Postwar Abstract Painting; What is Contemporary Art?; Art & Ideas: Teaching Themes; Art & Inquiry: Museum Teaching Strategies for You Classroom; Seeing Through Photographs; Art & Activity: Interactive Strategies for Engaging with Art; and Modern Art & Ideas. 10 MILLION MEALS

April saw the launch of ’10 Million Meals’, the nation’s largest community campaign to provide meals or food parcels to support vulnerable individuals and families during these tough times under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

“The ‘10 million meals’ campaign aims to reinforce social solidarity and cohesion in the UAE to enable us to emerge from the global crisis stronger,” Sheikh Mohammed has said of the campaign, adding, “The public, private and humanitarian sectors are united today to empower our people to overcome the global crisis without leaving anyone behind.”

PAY IT FORWARD WITH INKED AND ALSERKAL AVENUE

Our good friends at Inked Dubai recently launched a heartwarming charitable initiative as part of Alserkal Avenue’s ‘Pay It Forward Programme’. The creative platform, alongside the Alserkal community and UAE Food Bank, has been working hard to cook and deliver well-balanced meals to people in need and those on the front lines.
