The older sister of Mara Cafe in Sharjah, Mara Restaurant and Lounge Dubai is a cosy little eatery in Wasl 51 worth your attention. Join your friends at The Huntr as we present a closer look…
Complete with bright natural light, high ceilings, striking chandeliers and earthy hues with potted green plants, Mara Restaurant and Lounge is as pretty as they come. For the most part this two-storey, homegrown gem is nice and quiet until around 2pm and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Small and large groups can be easily accommodated and there’s outside seating available when the weather permits
The menu is divided between breakfast (served from 9am until 2pm) main courses (available from 12noon for lunch and dinner), sharing plates, salads, burgers and lots of desserts. The food is casual and cheat-day-worthy, but the health conscious will also be happy to learn that there are some wholesome options available. We started our dining experience with one such option – the Mara Chopped Salad (55AED) with soft corn, pickled red pepper, chickpeas, palm hearts, onion, red kidney beans, lemon dressing with sour cream. The Early Bird Flat Bread (46AED) followed and features a pizza-like flatbread topped with egg, cheese and cherry tomato. The Yuzu Kosho Marinated Grilled Tiger Shrimp with Spicy Kewpie (79AED) was tasty but slightly overcooked and our favourite dish was the Fiery Short Ribs (79AED) – sweet and savoury braised short ribs, which melt in the mouth and are laid on top of a bed of sweet potato puree with crispy lotus stem. The Mara Signature Slider (45AED) was another favourite and is comprised of crispy chicken, buffalo sauce and special sauce in a potato bun with Chips Oman. The Truffle and Parmesan Fries (34AED) were moreish and the Lebanese Rice with Beef (60AED) was also noteworthy.
Known for its desserts, we couldn’t resist sampling the sweet creations on offer at Mara and opted to share the Mara Bomb (59AED) almond frangipane, drunken strawberry, milk chocolate hazel mousse, coffee macaroon, special chocolate sauce and the Tiramisu (59AED), which is topped with a delicious hot espresso sauce and was our favourite.
Drinks-wise, Mara is alcohol-free and offers a wide variety of beverages we loved the Pistachio Milkshake (45AED) and the Passion Fruit Mojito (32AED). The coffee is specialty-style coffee and we enjoyed a Piccolo (25AED) and a Flat White (25AED). You can also purchase coffee beans to take home – plus non-dairy milks are available for those who prefer.
