Marina Social by Jason Atherton: An elegant contemporary British restaurant

Marina Social is the brainchild of English celebrity chef Jason Atherton – the man behind London’s Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social. Atherton was also the Executive Chef at Gordon Ramsey’s Michelin-starred Maze restaurant until 2010 and is now a successful restaurateur with restaurants in Hong Kong, London, New York, Shanghai, and Dubai.

As the name suggests, the concept is to create a ‘social’ atmosphere. This is present in the open kitchen, which invites you to be a part of the culinary action, the chef’s table, and the numerous table and seating arrangements to choose from depending on how social you want to be – including a semi-private dining area and private dining room. There’s also a lovely expansive outdoor terrace with delightful views of the Dubai Marina and bobbing boats – offering the ideal place to enjoy a meal during Dubai’s cooler months.

Marina Social is also home to The Social Room, a separate, cosy cocktail bar, which offers a variety of special deals and happy hours…

The food on offer here features British and Mediterranean classics that are designed to be shared. It’s fine dining fare, in a casual but refined, dining atmosphere. There’s also a dedicated vegan menu, vegetarian options, various special set menus, a kid’s menu, and weekend brunches (more here).

The HUNTR visited Marina Social for a weekend dinner. o whet our appetites we started with the glorious Goat’s Cheese Churros (40AED) and wholeheartedly recommend you do the same. Crispy churros are filled with gooey, sharp goat’s cheese, which is perfectly offset by the sweet truffle honey. Divine. The Seared Hokkaido Scallops (95AED) with fregola, shellfish butter, and gremolata were plump, tender and sweet, and the Marina Social Tomato and Burrata (95AED), with aged balsamic, and tomato salt is a must-order (we don’t want to spoil the surprise). From the dedicated vegan menu we also tried the Beetroot Rose (75AED) with avocado puree, lemon and apple gel, and walnuts, which was beautiful to look at, fresh and light.

For the main event, we opted to share the 300g Signature Beef Ribeye Steak (240AD), which perfectly cooked over charcoal in the high-tech Josper grill, and served with confit garlic, peppercorn and Béarnaise. The Poached Atlantic Cod, Razor Clams, Salsify, Cauliflower, Shellfish Veloute (175AED), and the wonderfully decadent (off-menu) Lobster Risotto with Canadian lobster, Arborio risotto, winter Italian black truffle, 24month old parmesan cheese, and truffle velocie.

We completed our dinner with dessert, and shared the Granny Smith Apple Crumble Cheesecake (65AED) and (our favourite) the Sticky Toffee Pudding (65AED), with a brandy snap, and banana ice cream. The bar at Marina Social is fully licensed, and The Social Room bar offers the opportunity to visit just for drinks. There are a variety of cocktails, mocktails, wines, spirits, beers and everything in between, on offer at the restaurant at the dedicated adjoining bar.

Insider tips: Advance bookings recommended for busy periods and large groups. Request a table outside if the weather permits.
