Marina Social Dubai: An 8.6 for Chef Jason Atherton’s Dubai Marina gem

Marina Social Dubai is the brainchild of English celebrity chef Jason Atherton – the man behind London’s Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social. Atherton was also the Executive Chef at Gordon Ramsey’s Michelin-starred Maze restaurant until 2010 and is now a successful restaurateur with restaurants in Hong Kong, London, New York, Shanghai and Dubai.

As the name suggests, the concept is to create a ‘social’ atmosphere. This is present in the open kitchen, which invites you to be a part of the culinary action, the chef’s table, and the numerous table and seating arrangements to choose from depending on how social you want to be – including a semi-private dining area and private dining room. There’s also a lovely expansive outdoor terrace with delightful views of the Dubai Marina and bobbing boats – offering the ideal place to enjoy a meal during Dubai’s cooler months.

Marina Social is also home to The Social Room, a separate, cosy cocktail bar, which offers a ladies night deal on Wednesdays (3 free drinks and 50% off bar bites) and a daily happy hour with 50% off selected beverages between 6 and 8 pm.

The food on offer here features British and Mediterranean classics that are designed to be shared. It’s fine dining fare, in a casual but refined, dining atmosphere. There’s also a dedicated vegan menu, vegetarian options, a special early supper set menu deal (2 course 160AED, 3 courses 210AED), the ‘Social Club‘ (running on Mondays and Tuesdays between 19:00-22:00 with soft drinks and alcoholic drink packages), kids menu, the ‘Share & Social Brunch‘ (Fridays 1-4pm) and a Saturday Social Roast.

The Huntr visited Marina Social for a weekend dinner. To whet our appetites we started with the glorious Goats Cheese Churros (40AED) and wholeheartedly recommend you do the same. Crispy churros are filled with gooey, sharp goats cheese, which is perfectly offset by the sweet truffle honey. Divine. We also shared the mouth-watering Roasted Mushroom, Black Truffle, Cep Puree and Taleggio Cheese Sourdough Pizza (93AED).

For the main event, we opted for the Roasted Atlantic Cod (162AED), which comes with confit leek & potato, shrimp, mussel chowder. The fish was tender and the flavours in the dish really complimented each other. And the Tender Valley Beef Rib Eye (230AED, 300g), which comes with triple cooked chips, peppercorn & Béarnaise sauce. The meat was perfectly cooked, tender as described and melted in our mouths. Don’t miss it. Lastly, our favourite dish of the evening – the Potato Gnocchi (93AED) with roasted pumpkin, ricotta, crispy sage & parmesan. Which was just perfect in every way.

To end the evening on a sweet note, we shared the Caramelized Tart Tatin of Apples, and Madagascan Vanilla Ice- Cream (for two) (108AED). If you have room, you should definitely do the same – this is an epic dessert, and it’s worth every calorie.

Drinks-wise, Marina Social is fully licensed and offers a wide selection of wines, beers, spirits and cocktails alongside mocktails and soft drinks.

Insider tip: Book to avoid disappointment. If the weather permits, request a terrace table. The restaurant area (inside) is non-smoking, making it kid and family-friendly. The Social Room is smoking. Marina Social is open from 6 pm during weekdays and 1 pm during the weekend for the Friday brunch and Saturday roast. The Social Room is open from 6 pm daily until 2 am, except on Fridays, when it opens at 1 pm and closes at 2 am.
