Say hello to Matto Dubai – a new Huntr discovery and the perfect place to enjoy delicious Italian food set amongst beautiful interiors in Dubai’s Business Bay…
Italian chic vibes hit you as soon as you enter Matto Dubai. Think borderline industrial, with a focus on quality design pieces, art, pretty lighting and an expansive space to enjoy some of Dubai’s best Italian fare. We loved the huge central table, which would be perfect for a special ‘big group‘ occasion, and adored the little nooks and crannies that are very Instagrammable.
Interiors aside, Matto Dubai packs a punch for flavour too. The menu is expansive, and features many classic favourites including a starter/small plates offering of brushette, parmigiana, burrata Pugliese (which The Huntr tried and loved), vitello tonnato, polpettine (meatballs – another dish The Huntr sampled and recommends) and the moreish fruittura di mare served with the most perfect, tangy lemon mayo. The restaurant also offers a selection of raw meats and fishes (carpacci and tartare), hearty salads & flatbreads. For the main event, choose from pizza (The Huntr had the diavola and it was divine), pasta, meat, fish, and risotto. We also sampled the stinco di agnello – a gorgeous, 36-hour cooked lamb shank served with parmesan risotto and gremolata sauce. The meat fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. There is literally something for everyone at Matto, and at the time The Huntr visited (a Wednesday lunchtime) we were joined by some smart “suits” taking advantage of the eatery’s ‘create your own lunch’ business lunch deal (more on that below).
All and all, this is a gorgeous restaurant and the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner with friends, family or clients. The Huntr can’t wait to return to sample the desserts and to check out the atmosphere after the sun sets.
Matto’s business lunch deal runs Sunday to Thursday between 12noon and 3 pm. You are invited to create your own lunch and choose from 3 starters (a bruchettone, calamari or aranici) for 35AED, and 3 mains for 55AED (Caprese salad, a ravioli and a beef dish). There are grape specials too. The menus may change, so do check in advance.
Insider tip: The Oberoi – home to Matto Dubai – is one of the most frustrating hotels to get to thanks to its concealed entrance. Don’t let ‘The Oberoi Centre’ signs confuse you that you are in the wrong place (like we did)… Keep driving straight, down to what looks like an underground carpark and follow the sign for ‘Hotel Reception’. It’s then a tight drive up a huge ramp and you’re there. Valet parking is free.
