Located within the Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Dubai’s bustling Business Bay, Morimoto Dubai ticks all of the fancy dinner boxes. The expansive eatery and bar is spread over two floors and features an inviting open kitchen, dining area, and bar on the ground floor, and upstairs, a teppanyaki counter and a private teppanyaki dining experience (there are actually 3 private dining options in total). For the cooler months, there are also four outdoor terraces with private-access areas. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows provide unrivalled views of the twinkling Dubai skyline and the oversized Japanese lanterns, dimmed lighting and comfortable seating options all contribute to the elegant, romantic, upscale dining experience.
Open for dinner daily from 7 pm, Morimoto’s menu is handcrafted by the talented Executive Chef Miguel Estrada and almost exclusively Japanese kitchen team. Thanks to the quality of the ingredients being used and the manpower required to prepare the intricate dishes, the prices at Morimoto are a little on the steep end. However, as our food rating (9 out of 10) demonstrates – they are worth it, and this is the perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday, date night or an important client dinner.
Morimoto’s bar is licensed and offers a wide range of speciality teas, sake, spirits, soft drinks, mocktails and epic cocktails. Pre-dinner, we decided to try the Zodiac Hour deal, which is priced at 89AED and includes two drinks and one Morimoto signature bite. You are invited to view the Zodiac table to select a drink that matches your birthdate (this part isn’t compulsory). We tried the Ne (Pisco, Sauternes, honey, Parmigiano Reggiano) and Tatsu (house-infused vanilla vodka, espresso, matcha served in a small bowl) with the Prawn Tempura and Chicken Gyoza.
With our appetites sufficiently “whetted”, it was on to the main event. We loved the Hamachi Tacos (60AED for 3 pieces) – deep-fried, crispy tacos with avocado, yuzukosho and lime, and the Rock Shrimp Tempura (88AED) – which come covered in spicy kochujan sauce and wasabi aioli. Absolute perfection. Next, we opted for the Salmon Sushi Assortment (98AED), which includes a mix of salmon nigiri and salmon maki. And because we decided to sit at the sushi bar, we had the pleasure of seeing these being made right in front of us – quite the treat. Last but not least, we opted for the Ishi Yaki Buri Bop (140AED), good for 2, this dish is made from yellowtail and rice and cooked at your table in a hot stone bowl. Instagram at the ready!
Our meal finished on a high note with the S’More (45AED) dessert. Wow. Don’t miss it.
