Inspired by the social supper clubs of the 1930s and 1940s in LA, NYC and Miami, Phoenix Social Club Dubai offers a post-prohibition restaurant and lounge experience inside Dubai’s H Hotel. Join your friends at The Huntr as we present a closer look…
Slated as “your new local, your best secret”, homegrown restaurant and lounge concept Phoenix Social Club has taken over the expansive space once used by Okku and transformed into a post-prohibition-inspired haven. Think dim lights, mirrors, vintage chandeliers, cosy leather seating, opulent black marble and framed portraits of American icons. The music playing when The Huntr visited was a mix of jazz, 50s, funk and house. There’s a dedicated DJ station and a calendar of special happenings – including live music and DJ performances.
Food-wise, Phoenix Social Club offers sharing style plates that are as pretty as a picture. The Huntr sampled the Tandoor Bread with Roasted Capsicum (30AED), our favourite Tandoor Bread with Burratina (54AED) which comes with paprika truffle honey, white balsamic pearls and fresh truffle and the rather epic Hamachi Ceviche (75AED) – burnt avocado, tiger’s milk, chili oil, sesame and radish. Plus the Chicken Liver Parfait (40AED), Miso Pumpkin and Sweet Potato (45AED) and the faultless Chargrilled Octopus (80AED), which was tender and juicy and perfectly complimented with sweet of grapes and salty miso foam. Alongside the Tortellini (75AED), which was the only dish we wouldn’t rush to order again as it felt a bit bland (we opted for the beef cheek filling).
To end a fantastic feast on a sweet note we shared two perfect desserts – the Compressed Watermelon (30AED) with fresh mangosteen, texture of white chocolate, kefir lime and basil and the Saffron and Pear Sorbet (30AED) with spiced caramel, vanilla yoghurt, milk crumble, apple and brick pastry.
Drinks-wise, this Trade Centre Area gem is fully licensed and offers a wide range of alcoholic beverages including some rather impressive-looking cocktails. The Huntr tried four of the bar’s signature cocktails – Monroe’s Charm (55AED), which features a cute candy floss decoration that brings to mind the swirl of Marilyn Monroe’s skirt, Old Currency (60AED), which is served in a glass dipped in chocolate, Pop Ma Chérie (55AED) and the Phoenix Elixir (65AED).
