From the founder of Tania’s Teahouse Tania Lodi, Sereni-Tea first opened in late November 2021 and offers a calm sanctuary in Umm Suqeim. Located within the zen grounds of Keyani Wellness Centre, this homegrown gem is the perfect spot to head for a healthy meal solo or with friends, to study/work, or sit peacefully with a book.

Where old sister Tania’s Teahouse is all pink and Instagrammable, Sereni-Tea offers a Hygge vibe with neutral, earthy, and pastel shades. A beautiful sage and terrazzo tea/coffee bar sits at the back and there are ample seating for small and medium-sized groups, including an outdoor area. Plus the garden and outside space is also pet-friendly.

Food-wise the menu features an array of options that suit gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan, sugar-free or dairy-free diets alike. The focus is on healthy, nutrient-dense dishes. The HUNTR visited on opening weekend for a late brunch. We tried and loved the Eggs Royale-tea (57AED) – Sereni-Tea’s take on the classic eggs royale, with two poached eggs, spinach, salmon, beet hollandaise sauce, cream cheese & chives spread, on a juicy portabello mushroom. Plus the To Bean or Not To Bean (58AED) – a colourful salad with mixed quinoa, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, butternut squash, avocado, pomegranate, walnuts, and almond flakes, topped with dehydrated blueberries and a lemon honey vinaigrette.

Drinks-wise the focus here is on tea and there are a plethora of healing teas on offer including over thirty different flavours. Kombucha (fermented tea) is also on offer here. All the teas are custom blended by Tania and are organic, ethically sourced, and contain zero artificial ingredients. Specialty coffee harvested exclusively by women in Rwanda is also served alongside adaptogen lattes called, ‘magic mylks’ with special ingredients such as magical mushrooms, supplements, and herbs.

The HUNTR tried the Cat-purr-cino (23AED), Golden Glow Tea (22AED) – a magical elixir of ginger, turmeric, carrot, beetroot, and pineapple that aids skin, hair, and cell repair (wellness tea). Plus the I love you this Matcha (22AED) a cup of classic ceremonial matcha tea. The drinks were perfectly matched with the Paleo-friendly Double Chocolate Chip Cookie (22AED) made with 100% organic ingredients that are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, yeast-free, sugar-free, and with no GMOs.

Sustainability is also important here and the cafe aims to be as zero-waste as possible, the founder Tania Lodi explained: “We’ve picked sustainability over aesthetics, for example, you will find no display chiller at Sereni-tea. Display chillers are notorious for high wastage due to the pressure of filling them up. We are embracing being a small batch cafe and would rather run out of an item due to popularity, than waste one. In order to reduce the wastage of fruit, we make fresh smoothies and juices, and our own berry preservative for our salad dressings and granola. We also use our coffee grinds to help our plants prosper and will eventually use them for skincare products too.”
