Founded by Australian expat Ryan Godinho, Stomping Grounds first opened in Jumeirah in February 2016 with the mission to provide amazing speciality coffee and food together with a neighbourhood cafe vibe to the city. The kitchen is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the dishes are centred around a bright mashup of delicious ingredients that are healthy, natural and luxurious.
The coffee on offer is all crafted from premium single origin beans sourced from around the world and roasted locally by Speciality Batch Coffee (a sister company and also the brainchild of Godinho). There are always 2-3 single origins on rotation that are exclusive to Stomping Grounds for in-house brews (you won’t even find them on their retail shelves), and there are a wide range of dairy-free milks available including almond, soya, oat, lactose-free and coconut.
The Huntr visited Stomping Grounds for a weekend brunch. On the manager’s recommendation, we tried the Steak & Eggs (77AED) plus the Fries with Truffle & Cheese. The fries were amazing and moreish, but we found the steak a tiny bit disappointing (after answering “medium” when asked how we wanted it cooked, it was actually served well-done and there wasn’t enough punch to the chimichurri). We also ordered a dish from the specials menu, which featured sweet potato, kale, quinoa, edamame beans, crunchy chickpeas, hummus and poached eggs. It tasted as wonderful as it looked and is the perfect meal for the health-conscious bruncher or luncher.
Insider tip: Free WiFi available. Open 7.30 am until 11 pm Saturday until Wednesday and 7.30am until midnight Thursday and Friday. There’s a Speciality Coffee Training Centre on the premises, which is accredited by the SCA.
