From the folks behind Society and Toplum comes The Grey Dubai – a.k.a. the secret new spot that has those in the know in a tailspin. Join your friends at The HUNTR as we present the 411…
It’s been a while since a cafe/restaurant achieved such cult-like status in the first few days of opening and naturally, The HUNTR’s ears always prick up when we hear of one such spot. When it first opened on the 21st of January 2021, The Grey was only accessible via DM appointment through Instagram but (we assume) quickly got so popular that this was abandoned and it is now open from 8 am daily for all.
One foot inside (or even outside for that matter) and it’s easy to see why this homegrown spot is getting all of the Instagram love. Housed within a converted bungalow villa, the space is airy and inspiring, slick and cool, and offers various seating arrangements for small and large groups. Outside there’s a ‘look-don’t-swim’ pool and a few seating options in the peaceful courtyard.
The complimentary wifi makes it a great spot for getting some work done, and the menu features an array of delicious-sounding dishes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, plus a tempting assortment of sweet treats and desserts.
Knowing that it would be the quietest time, The HUNTR arrived at The Grey at 8 am and enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast. We shared the healthy Coconut Yoghurt, Passion Fruit & Mango, House Granola (58AED) bowl, which was creamy and delicious. Alongside the striking and decadent Truffle Scramble Eggs, Shaved Truffles, Béchamel, Mushroom, Brioche Loaf (98AED). The wholesome Grilled Halloumi Bowl (69AED) with perfectly poached egg, avocado, hummus, pumpkin, furikake, quinoa, and sesame kale is a great option for something nutritious and light. Whilst the Chipotle Eggs Benedict (62AED) is placed inside a unique charcoal-black croissant and features yummy maple coffee bacon. Sweet tooths will adore the Hazelnut Charcoal Croissant (28AED), which is filled with moreish hazelnut cream.
Drinks-wise, The Grey is alcohol-free and offers a variety of hot and cold drinks including specialty coffee powered by Three Coffee Roasters. The HUNTR tried and loved the Butter Scotch Latte 38AED (using a single origin from Ethiopia) and V60 (35AED) (with a single origin from Papua New Guinea), which was rich, chocolatey, fruity, and sweet.
All and all The Grey is a strong addition to the Dubai cafe scene – offering some of the same and some of a little bit different, all wrapped up in the chicest bow and is definitely a spot to add to your hitlist, stat… Great food, great coffee, and great vibes – what more could you want?
Insider tip: The Grey Dubai is open daily from 8 am until 11 pm. There are washrooms and they are rather beautiful.
