Ground control to Major Tom. Take your protein pills and put your helmet on… And join The Huntr as we present the otherworldly To The Moon and Back Coffee Dubai.
Founded by two Emirati nationals, To The Moon and Back Coffee (TTMB Coffee) is tucked away inside the residential La Plage Complex in Jumeirah 3. Founders Zainab and Saleh were united by a shared passion for speciality coffee, which started 7,244 miles away – in Melbourne, Australia. Whilst studying for her bachelor’s degree, Zainab worked as a barista in Melbourne. This kickstarted her love for third-wave coffee in 2008 and she began honing her craft and daydreaming about owning a coffee shop of her own one day. Her business partner, Saleh, had similar dreams and together they joined forces and TTMB Coffee was born in late 2018.
Inspired by the unrivaled speciality coffee concepts in Melbourne, Zainab and Saleh set about creating something that offered an otherworldly experience in Dubai. Quite literally. A refuge with great coffee and vibes, where every detail has been carefully considered. Themed around space and the fact that “a good sip of coffee can take you to the moon and back”, Ziggy Stardust would certainly feel right at home in this gem. Aussie artist Nani Puspasari created a striking 2 metre-round wall mural for the cafe, which features a space traveller and iconic UAE symbols including camels and the Burj Khalifa. A beautiful astrological carpet is proudly displayed at the centre of the room and was custom-made for TTMB Coffee. Plus, for the cooler months, the glass front of the shop can be peeled back to offer an “outside-inside” vibe, with views of the surrounding greenery and a relaxing breeze trickling in from La Plage’s peaceful courtyard. The (incredibly comfy) back couches also have easy-access plug sockets making this the ideal spot to get work done or study.
The coffee on offer is a celebration of Australian roasting profiles and as such, the team at TTMB Coffee uses beans that are roasted and shipped in direct from Melbourne’s 5senses Coffee Roasters. Guest Aussie roasters will also be rotated each month. Plus Zainab and Saleh told The Huntr “We love to explore the wide range of coffee origins, so we are not limiting ourselves to one source or origin. We renew our bean offerings every fortnight.” The coffee menu includes hot and cold milk-based drinks (flat white, cappuccino, latte, piccolo, cortado) alongside filter and black options (espresso, long black, Aeropress, v60). Plus, hot chocolate and Mexican Horchata for the non-coffee drinker. Oat and soy milk are also available.
The food offering is currently limited to bakes and sweet treats (brownies, cookies, croissants, and cheesecake), but Zainab and Saleh are currently working on a full food menu offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which will debut soon. The Huntr will, of course, keep you posted.
Insider tip: To The Moon and Back Coffee is open from 7am to 11pm daily. RTA paid parking is available on the street. The large table in the centre is ideal for a big group meeting or get together and seats 8 people. Coffee ‘flights’ are available for coffee geeks on request.
