When Tom & Serg first opened in Dubai’s Al Quoz industrial area back in 2013, it was one of the city’s first homegrown ‘pared back’ eateries. The inception clearly inspired budding foodies all over the region, and since its launch, many ‘no frills, good food’ concepts have opened. Of course, being the first often means being the most popular – and you’ll be hard pushed to find a free table at this warehouse-cum-cafe at its popular breakfast and lunch sittings.
The brainchild of namesake founders Tom and Serg, the cafe wouldn’t be out of place if grew wings and flew over to the coffee/breakfast city of the world – Melbourne, or hipster seaside location Brighton in the UK. Exposed brickwork, minimal lighting fixtures, and chalkboards galore all add to the cool vibes of this UAE eatery.
Tom & Serg regularly hosts pop-up events and month-long specials so be sure to check the website and social media channels for timely updates. It was also one of the first speciality coffee concepts in the UAE and serves a cracking cup including Aussie favourite – the Flat White and ‘The Magic’ (froth, milk and espresso). Food-wise, breakfast is served until 4pm daily and The Huntr’s favourite is the scrambled eggs on toast with mushroom (58AED), which is juxtaposed with a sharp, gooey serving of goats cheese and fresh basil. For lunch, there are a variety of healthy options including salads and more decadent treats like burgers. Vegetarians and vegans are also catered to and there’s a dedicated kid’s menu (plus a popular kid’s play area upstairs).
The free WiFi, filtered water and expansive area make it a great spot to study or get work done. See you there?
