Take a closer look at Tong Thai Dubai with The Huntr. A beaut little fine dining Thai cuisine concept that you need to add to your hitlist, stat.
As soon as you enter Tong Thai Dubai you walk through a gorgeous, Asian-inspired hallway and passed the beautiful lounge (where the bar is located). You then reach the dining room and, wow. Wow. Red floating lanterns cover the ceiling and the whole room is inspired by the lantern festival in Thailand. Well, let us tell you that you are literally transported there and it’s wonderful. Beautiful and romantic, and all while overlooking the sparkling towers of Dubai’s Business Bay.
Food-wise Tong Thai hits the spot too. This is authentic and consistent Thai cuisine, just like The Huntr’s other favourite Thai restaurants, Wise Kwai and Fuchsia, Tong Thai transported us to Thailand with its tasty authentic Thai flavours.
To start we tried the ‘Tong Thai Sampler’, which is comprised of papaya salad, purple flower dumplings, veggie spring rolls, prawn cakes, chicken wrapped in pandan leaves and beef satay. Each piece is mouthwatering and bursting with flavour. We also ordered the pomelo salad – soft shell crab, fried shallots, and toasted coconut, all doused in a chilli lime dressing. The mixture of sweet, salty, and spicy is addictive. For the main event, we opted for the restaurant’s signature dish: A stir-fried Wagyu beef steak served with eggplant, long beans, coconut shoots, young green peppercorns. We also ordered the stir-fried prawns, scallops, squid, onion, capsicum, and Thai celery served with a turmeric sauce. We recommend both. The green chicken curry was also delightful and is crafted with coconut shoots, Thai eggplant, and sweet basil. The steamed Jasmine rice is the perfect accompaniment to the main courses.
To end an incredible meal we, of course, had to sample the signature Thai sticky mango rice. And it was totally yummy. We also ordered the steamed caramelized dumpling with warm coconut syrup, which was stunning. It has this warm coconut sauce with salty taste (sort of like salted caramel) and the dumpling is like the Japanese mochi in texture. Divine.
All and all, if you love Thai food, you are going to fall in love with Tong Thai Dubai. (And it’s the perfect place to take the person you are most in love with).
