Urban Treasures: 7 nostalgic gems spotlighted by the Department of Culture & Tourism in Abu Dhabi

The Department of Culture & Tourism (DCT) in Abu Dhabi has spotlighted seven nostalgic gems with an Urban Treasures 2023 showcase. Publishing a video on the DCT YouTube account, the seven small businesses featured have been serving up their humble brand of hearty food at great prices for decades…

The Urban Treasures 2023 list includes:

  • Abu Al Afwal – located in the Al Zahiyah neighbourhood and bringing a taste of Sudan to the UAE capital since 1975.
  • Abu Kaabi Kabab Restaurant & Grills – a kebab favourite serving up its juicy grills since 1975 in Al Khalidiyah.
  • Al Alamain Restaurant – the falafel sandwich king since 1980 in Al Danah.
  • Al Arab Restaurant – the multiple cuisines hotspot serving everything from biryani to chicken chow mein since 1985 in Al Dhafrah.
  • Al Sultan Restaurant & Grill – a Lebanese favourite established in the 1980s in three Abu Dhabi locations.
  • Chhappan Bhog – an Indian favourite since 1994 with several locations in Abu Dhabi (and Dubai and Sharjah).
  • Lebanese Roaster – Abu Dhabi’s first coffee roaster, established in 1978.
