Walnut Grove City Walk: Huge portions of goodness at this South African gem

First established in South Africa in 1975, Walnut Grove City Walk brings its famous (and huge) salads, cakes and signature dishes to the Al Safa neighbourhood in Dubai.

Located a stone’s throw from the impressive Level Kids department store, Walnut Grove is plush with a concomitant homely vibe. Think comfy and luxurious leather armchairs, shelves stacked with books, pretty lighting, a tempting display of cheat-day-worthy cakes and lots of seating options for small and large groups.

The menu features an array of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This City Walk gem is famous for its salads, which are made for sharing and good for 2-6 people (depending on what else you are ordering). It’s also renowned for its desserts, which are equally huge and decadent.

The Huntr visited Walnut Grove for a weekday lunch. We started with the Halloumi Fries (49AED), which are deep-fried and topped with pomegranates, mint, a sriracha mayo and dusted with za’atar spice. They were worth every calorie. Next we tried the Burrata Salad (96AED), good for 4-6 people sharing with other dishes or 2 for a main, it’s comprised of a wholesome mix of mixed lettuce with julienne carrots, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red onions, pine nuts and sun blushed tomatoes topped with creamy burrata cheese, fresh basil leaves and sun-dried tomato pesto and dressed in a vinaigrette dressing. It’s topped with homemade cheese straws and giant croutons. For the main event we opted for the Pine Nut-Crusted Sea Bass (129AED) – a fresh fillet of Chilean Sea Bass coated in crushed pine nuts and herbs and pan grilled with lemon butter. Served on a bed of couscous, the dish also comes with a salsa verde mayonnaise and a side dish of your choice, The Huntr opted for the French fries.

After a delightful (and filling) lunch we kicked back with a Golden Turmeric Latte (32AED) and a giant slice of Oreo Cheesecake (45AED), which could easily feed 3-4 people.

Insider tip: Free WiFi is available. There’s also a kid’s menu and Walnut Grove will soon be open at The Dubai Mall. There was a special 35AED lunch deal available when The Huntr visited and a florist pop-up store. Check the Walnut Grove website for updated news, offers and events.
