Wise Kwai Dubai: Your theatrical ticket to the ‘Land of Smiles’

There are a plethora of reasons why they call Thailand “the land of smiles”, but one of them is definitely the grub. Thai food is loved throughout the globe for its unique and beautiful flavours. And if like us, you are a Thai food fan, you simply must pay a visit to Wise Kwai Dubai. Read on for our full review…

The UAE doesn’t exactly have a Thai restaurant shortage, but the latest arrival – Wise Kwai Dubai – might just be our favourite. Why? Well, for starters, Wise Kwai’s interiors will transport you to Thailand with your feet firmly planted on the ground in Dubai’s Al Barsha at the Dusit Kenz hotel. Movie buffs might know that Wise Kwai is actually a famous Thai movie, and this new foodie jewel plays homage to it with its cinema-esque interior decor. Think big velvet curtains, menus plastered with the retro poster for the Wise Kwai movie, cosy little booths and sparkling lights overhead. Dreamy.

Secondly, this is some of the most authentic and tastiest Thai food we’ve sampled outside of Thailand. The Huntr tried the fish cakes, marinated crispy beef strips and green papaya salad to start. Each dish was incredible. For the main event, we opted for the steamed fish with coriander, garlic, lime and chilli sauce. The Thai fried rice with seafood, egg and veggies and obviously, we had to try the Pad Thai. For dessert, we ordered the chilli ice-cream, which was absolutely stunning and a must-order. Plus the pumpkin custard, which was super yummy and featured a slice of steamed pumpkin. We can also recommend the ruby water chestnut, which has jelly, jackfruit and coconut milk. Delish.

The service was also really impressive. All of the staff are from Thailand, they are knowledgeable, accommodating and polite. The Huntr also loved the drinks we sampled on our lunchtime visit, and whilst the hotel is yet to be licensed, we loved trying some unique mocktails including a TomYamTini and a refreshing (and addictive) Thai iced tea.

Two big thumbs up from The Huntr. We’ll be back Wise Kwai…

Insider tip: Wise Kwai has a cute little terrace – perfect for Dubai’s cooler months. It does not serve alcohol.
